The Gauteng Education Department said the pastor arrived at the school on Monday and forcefully removed his grandchildren. He was accompanied by two other men who were also armed.
It's understood the children were caught in a dispute between their maternal and paternal families, which resulted in Motsoeneng forcefully removing his grandchildren from the school.
The department said the maternal grandmother tried to prevent the father from collecting the children from school when Motsoeneng and two other men arrived with machetes and a rifle.
In the video, the controversial pastor can be seen swinging the weapon at teachers in the school and at community members who tried to intervene.
Gauteng police said they were investigating the incident and a team of detectives were taking statements from witnesses.
