Reporters on a media tour with Journalists for Justice have been walking through the city towards their hotel at around 11 pm.
The country is under martial law, which means there is an enforced curfew from midnight, and everyone is required to be indoors.
The air-raid sirens began ringing, which isn’t uncommon, and a reporter from Eyewitness News took out his phone to start recording the sounds of the sirens.
He was about 10 metres away from his hotel when he heard two explosions in the air, some distance away.
While outside the hotel, probably about two minutes later, another two massive explosions went off in Kyiv, and the hotel staff quickly ushered reporters on the tour into the bomb shelter, where they waited for about an hour before the alert was over.
It’s understood that Ukrainian forces shot down rockets and drones launched toward Kyiv.
A similar situation happened last week Monday, where dozens of drones were shot down in the city.
