JOHANNESBURG - Firefighters have managed to extinguish the blaze at the Incredible Happenings church in Ekurhuleni's Katlehong township.

It’s understood a group of pupils set the church of pastor Paseka Mboro Motsoeneng alight on Tuesday afternoon.

This follows the arrests of at least four people for threatening teachers and wielding a machete at a school on Monday.

On Monday, pastor Motsoeneng was caught on video forcefully removing his grandchildren after their father was denied permission to take them home from the Matshidiso Primary School.

It's understood the children are caught in a dispute between their maternal and paternal families following the death of their mother.

Meanwhile, police say they cannot at this stage divulge what the fifth person’s involvement in  Monday’s school machete attack was but will also face charges of assault, intimidation and contravention of the Dangerous Weapon’s Act.

They say they will also be investigating another case after Motsoeneng’s church was set alight.

“The information that I have received from the station commander is that it was the school kids from Katlehong High who were involved in the burning of the church. Of course, a crime has been committed and so a case of arson has been registered,” Ekurhuleni district commissioner Anna Sithole.

Meanwhile, the Incredible Happenings church has been completely gutted by the fire – with only a few chairs and iron rods remaining as evidence of what was.
