JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa says prior work experience should no longer be a barrier for young people to enter the labour market.
Ramaphosa was speaking at the African National Congress' (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) lekgotla in Boksburg on Sunday.
The president called for the public service to be professionalised and priotise qualified young people.
According to Ramaphosa, the basic income grant for unemployed youth should dominate the discussions of the ANC's NEC Lekgotla in the next three days.
He said the youth should be given opportunities to serve their country and participate in the growth of their country's economy.
"We cannot continue to have so many South Africans unemployed. Much work has been done in creating conditions for greater investment and infrastructure, improving mechanisms for planning, financing, and implementation. Over the past five years, a lot of work has been done," said Ramaphosa.
