SACP hits out at ANC for embracing 'white monopoly capital' in GNU

CAPE TOWN - The South African Communist Party (SACP) has continued its scathing criticism of the Government of National Unity (GNU) as it celebrated its 103rd anniversary on Sunday.

SACP general secretary, Solly Mapaila, and the African National Congress (ANC)'s alliance partners slammed the party for cosying up with what it called "white monopoly capital" as it formed a GNU.

The SACP also used the occasion to call for the immediate signing of the National Health Insurance (NHI) into law and addressing the high cost of living.
 
The SACP and its supporters gathered in Cape Town's Khayelitsha on Sunday to mark its anniversary in the city where the party was formed in 1921.

But speakers from alliance partners, COSATU and the SACP, used the time to slam the GNU and its members like the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Freedom Front Plus.

The SACP's Solly Mapaila: "All these parties, BOSA, Rise Mzansi, the FF Plus and others, all with money from the Oppenheimers as well as from international capital, immediately after elections we go and embrace them."

But ANC NEC member, Joe Maswanganyi, who delivered the ANC's message of support, defended the party.

"The GNU is not a sellout approach. We are not in alliance with the DA."

He said they're rather in a coalition with nine different parties.
