CAPE TOWN - David Makhura said that breakaway political parties have had a far-reaching impact on the decline of the African National Congress (ANC) over the years.
According to Makhura, the ANC has eroded its integrity and ideological principles by ignoring the fundamental needs of the poor and lacking strategic economic growth policies.

He said the continued high rate of unemployment, poverty, and inequality should have been the fundamental focus of the party in the past 30 years.
He was speaking at a media briefing on Saturday, reflecting on the party's recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which looked at the party's recent election performance.

"What's happening in society [is that] there are crises and tendencies that have a huge impact on the progressive transformation of our country. Some of them are global, or they have global manifestations, but now they are hitting our democracy."
