NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said that the State would ensure justice was served even though the matter was ten years old and Botha was already serving a life sentence.

"It is not PR at all. Remember, there is a victim here who deserves justice for what happened to her. We need to ensure that we prosecute him and to ensure justice for her. So, she deserves that justice. We are trying to give her that justice. Just because he is serving a sentence, it doesn't mean she doesn't deserve justice. She deserves justice because there was an injustice done to her."
