The party’s highest decision-making body between conferences, the National Executive Committee (NEC), has been meeting at the Birchwood Hotel in Kempton Park to do a post-mortem on its electoral performance.
ANC head of elections, Mdumiseni Ntuli, said that the party had identified the problem.
"Over a period of time, there has been a steady decline of activism in the movement. Yes, we've got structures, leadership, but there is less activism which connects these structures with the population on the ground. So the NEC is discussing that problem. What are we going to do to bring back that culture of activism because the disconnection with the party begins with the disconnection of the local structures as well as the population on the ground."
