JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) said that there won't be any repercussions for what it has called a disappointing electoral performance
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has been meeting at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg to reflect on its recent electoral outcomes.
Despite a disappointing electoral performance, the ANC said that it's important to remember that it remains the most popular party in the country.
Outside of the DA-controlled Western Cape, the ANC won five provinces outright and is in co-governing coalitions.
The party’s first Deputy General Secretary General Nomvula Mokonyane said that the NEC wants to help not punish its struggling leaders.
“We have learned the hard way, intentions of wanting to deal with people based on the outcomes of the elections has never helped the ANC, but it has actually made the ANC became much more weaker.”
However, Mokonyane added that the ANC will be reconstituting its election structures in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
