CAPE TOWN - The State in the Nafiz Modack trial has concluded presenting its evidence in the high-profile case against the alleged underworld figure.
Modack, along with 14 co-accused, face more than 100 charges, including murder, extortion, money laundering and racketeering.
Evidence presented on Thursday included payments from a Modack family trust fund to Empire Investment Cars, a company the State alleges Modack used to commission crimes.
Hawks officer, Edward du Plessis, also testified about an alleged death threat he received from one of the accused in 2021.
He said he received a call from an unknown number in January 2021 from someone who told him there was a R1 million bounty on his head.
Du Plessis told the court a cellphone service provider revealed that co-accused, Petrus Visser, made the call, although he said he could not emphatically confirm the accused made the call.
Visser denied the allegation.
Du Plessis’s cross-examination is set to continue.
