JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has challenged Premier Panyaza Lesufi to have performance management contracts for all MECs.

On Thursday, Lesufi tabled the Premier’s office budget before the Gauteng legislature.

The DA said it would not be voting to pass the budget as it does the same things that failed in the previous administration.

DA provincial leader Solly Msimanga said Lesufi had failed as head of the political administration to hold his MECs accountable.

"First of all, let’s have performance management contracts for all MECs and HODs and that must be made public. That must be signed and made public with timelines of what must be done and when it must be done so that we can hold you, your MECs and HODs to account, having something tangible we can look at."

In response, Lesufi said his office had already drawn up draft performance contracts which would be made public next month.

"We have nothing to hide. It is not the first time we have signed all performance contracts ever since I was the premier and MEC in this particular province. So, if you are accusing us of augmenting old stories, the opposite is true."
