The Crowbar pub in Waterkant street has closed its doors for good after more than 100 years.

The cost of keeping an establishment running in the Cape Town city centre is constantly rising, so people are saying goodbye to some of their favourite spots.

This includes one of Cape Town’s longer-running pubs, Crowbar in Waterkant street.

The Crowbar first opened in 1896 and was bought by Scheer in 1996.

Scheer says their landlord wanted to redevelop the building completely, which would strip the Crowbar of all its heritage.
