On Monday morning, a teacher from the Phikiswayo Primary School, in Nzuma, was shot and killed on the premises.
Police said two gunmen shot the teacher in full view of learners.

While schoolchildren are still reeling from the pain of seeing their teacher killed in front of them, parties in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature have called for swift action.
Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) Mncendisi Maphisa said the South African Police Service (SAPS) must to get to the bottom of the gruesome killing.
“We are appealing to the SAPS in the province and nationally, if possible, to intervene, but again we are appealing to the Department of Education to try their level best to make the safety of their teachers a priority.”
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance (DA)’s Francois Rodgers said law enforcement agencies need to revisit the issue of guns.
“It’s important that our security services and police deal with this and deal with it decisively. We need to relook at the issue of firearms and how they are issued.”
Police are investigating a case of murder. No arrests have been made yet.
