Join a fun running club and help achieve Sanlam Cape Town Marathon's world status
A thriving running community awaits you as Cape Town chases World Major Marathon status.
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon combines the natural beauty of mountains, the scenic cityscape, and the spirit of Capetonians all into one epic day.
The 20th of October 2024 is set to be a marathon day not to be missed as Cape Town attempts to achieve Abbott World Marathon Major status and join the likes of the Boston, Tokyo, and Berlin marathons.
“It’s not only about the natural beauty of running next to the sea, city and the most beautiful mountains but a lot of it comes down to the vibe,” says Clark Gardner, Group CEO of Faces, organisers of the Cape Town Marathon.
One way to get in on the fun at this year’s marathon is by joining one of the 300 running clubs taking part in the race. Although running is technically a solo sport, it doesn’t have to be a lonely one.
These running clubs not only provide a passionate and supportive running community but also help amateur and veteran runners reach their fitness goals in preparation for marathon day. Here are a few running club captains that we got to know last year that might inspire you to lace up your trainers and find your sprint squad ahead of October.

Ashraf’s tip for Marathon runners: “Sleep well, eat, rest, and get up early to make the start”
