DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal transport department is meeting with taxi bosses on Tuesday afternoon following blockades in parts of the province.
Last week, some major routes in Ulundi and Empangeni were blockaded over permit issues and recurrent taxi routes conflict.
On Monday, the taxi association in Ugu, on KZN's South Coast also staged a stay away for the same reasons.
Transport MEC Siboniso Duma: "We are meeting them this afternoon, but Shanele is not going nowhere, we are still going to apply the law as long as they don’t have permits."
Duma said that while they wanted to see stability within the taxi industry, the law must be obeyed by all.
"But at the same time, the applicability of the law is what we can’t compromise on. As long as you don’t comply, something ought to be done."
