JOHANNESBURG - Ahead of crucial budget votes in the Gauteng legislature, ActionSA says it has assured the provincial government it will not obstruct legislation without cause.

Over the next few days, several MECs will be tabling budgets from their respective departments for a vote.

However, with the African National Congress (ANC) having formed a minority government in Gauteng, it needs parties from outside its coalition to pass the budgets.

ActionSA Gauteng leader, Funzi Ngobeni, said the party would take a merit-based approach on all items presented before the legislature.

"And also making proposals on why budget needs to be redirected there and not there. We are really taking that approach of ensuring that we are not an obstruction to service delivery, but we are also critical with government where we think they are doing something wrong."
