CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape government says the recently enacted Public Procurement Act will be a "handbrake" on service delivery in the province.
Premier Alan Winde said that he and Finance MEC Deidre Baartman have now written to President Cyril Ramaphosa to raise concerns over the constitutionality of the Act.
The Act was signed into law by Ramaphosa to create a single framework to regulate public tenders by all organs of state.
"We believe in this province that's an absolute handbrake to enabling provincial service delivery and also municipal service delivery here in the Western Cape. We objected to this act in the previous term and we still object to it. We are very concerned about the constitutionality of the act itself."
