CAPE TOWN - In-and-out air traffic delays are expected at the Cape Town International Airport on Monday morning.

This follows a power outage on Sunday night that forced flights to be diverted.

In its latest update, the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said some circuits were back on.

United Airlines, Delta Airlines and South African Airways (SAA) flights were able to leave the airport on Sunday night.

Travellers are advised to check live flight information on the ACSA website.

There have been reports of delays in receiving luggage from a flight from Mauritius, which landed in the early hours of Monday morning after being diverted to Johannesburg overnight.

ACSA APOLOGISES FOR INCONVENIENCES CAUSED BY OUTAGE

ACSA has apologised for any inconveniences caused by a power outage at the Cape Town International Airport.

The power supply challenges have affected runway lights, airside fire rescue, and air traffic navigation services, resulting in flights not being able to land or depart.

Though flights had to be diverted to other airports, the situation is improving.

“ACSA confirms that runway lights and navigational aids were returned to service after 1 o'clcok this morning [Monday], allowing for safe aircraft landings. The restoration of power supply has allowed for 11 aircrafts to land,” ACSA's Ernest Mulibana explained.

Mulibana is urging travellers to download the ACSA app for the latest updates.

“ACSA technicians and specialists are continuing with permanent repairs and restoration of the network. However, we are waiting for a clear window of opportunity to execute the required work.”
