CAPE TOWN - The cross-examination of a Hawks officer in the trial against alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack was put on hold in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.

Evidence presented by the officer in court includes cellphone extraction reports and financial audits related to the 124 charges Modack and his 14 co-accused face.

Hawks officer, Edward du Plessis, was ready to be cross-examined by attorneys representing Modack and his co-accused on Monday.

The trial had been on hold since 23 June due to the high court going into recess.

Previously, Du Plessis presented evidence of a company, Empire Investment Cars, which Modack was allegedly using to pay some of the accused to commit crimes.

EWN understands court proceedings were delayed on Monday as the same company was previously used to pay one of the attorneys representing two of the accused on trial.

The attorney is now seeking counsel before the matter proceeds later today.
