JOHANNESBURG - ANC Veterans League deputy president Mavuso Msimang said that the party must use the expulsion of its former president Jacob Zuma as an opportunity to rebuild the African National Congress (ANC).
While Zuma has 21 days to appeal a decision for him to be kicked out of the party by the ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee, Msimang said this should not distract the organisation from attending to more pressing issues.
According to a leaked report from the disciplinary committee, Zuma was found guilty of contravening the ANC’s constitution when he proclaimed last year December that he would be campaigning and voting for the Umkhonto Wesizwe party.
The former president has since emerged as the founder of the MK Party and subsequently took over its leadership.
Msimang said that the ANC should have handled Zuma’s actions better.
"It must not distract the organisation and the country, from getting it out of the hole, we are in a unique situation. No single party has the authority to govern, and this is the challenge of how best to move forward."
Meanwhile the ANC is refusing to comment on the leaked document, with its Communications Manager Martina Della Togna telling journalists on Monday that the time will come to discuss the matter.
Zuma's expulsion will not be pronounced on yet, because the is no outcome officially communicated. As soon as the ANC is in a position to comment on that matter it will do so.
