JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) says it's reeling from the consequences of former president Jacob Zuma’s actions after confirming that its National Disciplinary Committee expelled its former leader.
ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula concluded a media briefing at the party’s headquarters on Monday where he confirmed a leaked report finding Zuma guilty of contravening some sections of the party’s constitution.
Zuma was hauled before the disciplinary committee by the ANC’s National Executive Committee after announcing that he would be campaigning for new party Umkhonto Wesizwe.
Mbalula said that the ANC never imagined that it would deal with a situation that would include having to expel a former president of the organisation.
He added that the party is relieved to be in the final stages of its impasse with Zuma.
