JOHANNESBURG - Alan Hatherly has won South Africa's second medal at the Paris Olympic Games after clinching bronze in the men's Mountain Bike (MTB) cross-country race on Monday.
Hatherly's success sees him win South Africa's first Olympic cycling medal since 1956.
The men's Sevens team secured South Africa's first medal at the 2024 Games after finishing third.
Hatherly had been part of a three-man lead group at the start of the race but finished with a time of 1:26:33.
The gold medal was taken by Great Britain's Thomas Pidcock in a time of 1:26:22 and silver went to France's Victor Koretzky with a time of 1:26:31.
Success for Hatherly comes after he finished 8th at the Tokyo Olympics and 26th in Rio in 2016.
