CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) has called for an investigation into racism at schools across the Western Cape.
This followed an incident where black learners were cast in the role of slaves while their coloured classmates pretended to auction them off in a video circulated on social media this week.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has called the incident hurtful and disturbing.

The ANC's provincial spokesperson, Khalid Sayed, said acts of racism should not be tolerated after 30 years of democracy.
"This incident reflects the pervasive problem that often goes unreported in many of the former model C schools in the Western Cape, suggesting a failure to adequately address and combat racism at the system level. Premier Alan Winde and David Maynier must take urgent action to tackle racism across provincial schools."
The incident is the second this week, after 12 pupils at Pretoria High School for Girls in Gauteng were suspended for allegedly sharing racial microaggressions on a whites-only WhatsApp group.
