JOHANNESBURG - The Limpopo Department of Education has clarified that a grade 2 learner from Lefatane Primary School was trapped and did not fall into a pit toilet.
It is understood that on Thursday, a fellow learner saw the pupil climbing and jumping from one cover to the other and was trapped in one of the Enviro Loo manhole covers.
Subsequently, the learner's parents were called to school regarding the incident and ultimately took the child to the nearest clinic for medical attention.
According to the department, no injuries were reported.
"The department would like to put it on record that the learner did not fall into the pit latrine toilet but rather was partially trapped in an Enviro Loo cover outside the toilet. Safe schools remain a priority for the department,” said department spokesperson Mosebjane Kgaffe.
