CAPE TOWN - Eskom said that while the load shedding remains suspended, it has implemented load reduction in some areas in the Western Cape.
It added that load reduction will be implemented on a rotational basis between 05:00 AM - 07:00 AM and 17:00 to 19:00.
The power utility said that the implementation of load reduction is as a result of illegal connections which put pressure on its infrastructure.
It also added that this is exacerbated by the theft of electricity by some customers.
Eskom said that the load reduction is a measure to avoid the damage of its equipment due to overloading.
Residents have been advised that the reduction may increase if temperatures fall, due to increased electricity demand.
Affected areas include Mandela Park in Khayelitsha, Mfuleni, parts of Airport Industria, Philippi and others.
