JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Tshwane leader Obakeng Ramabodu has apologised for his recent comments in the council where he threatened a councillor by saying he wants “Afrikaner blood”.
Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has described Ramabodu's comments as "hate speech rhetoric".
The EFF leader made these comments during a heated council meeting on Thursday, which collapsed before completing all the items on its agenda.
"I will be happy to moer a Boer, that will be nice. An Afrikaner blood. I want the blood of an Afrikaner....bring the blood of an Afrikaner...I want it," Ramabodu said.
Writing on his official X account, Ramabodu said his comments came after being threatened by a “racist” Afrikaner councillor from the Freedom Front Plus.
However, this threat is not captured in the council's livestream.
Ramabodu said he apologises unconditionally because his comments have been taken out of context.
