JOHANNESBURG - While ActionSA has welcomed the resignation of Zizi Kodwa as a member of Parliament (MP), it has slammed the African National Congress (ANC) for not preventing the former minister from being sworn in Parliament.
The ANC announced on Thursday in a brief statement that Kodwa had resigned as an MP with immediate effect.
ActionSA's caucus leader in Parliament, Athol Trollip, says it speaks volumes that the ANC's integrity committee and step-aside rule could not block Kodwa's return to the National Assembly.

Kodwa is alleged to have received kickbacks amounting to nearly R1.7 million from former EOH chief executive Jehan Mackay, who is also his co-accused.
Trollip who expressed dissatisfaction at news that Kodwa’s resignation followed an apparent parliamentary trip abroad, described ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula's acceptance of the resignation as mealy-mouthed.
"Especially since the ANC’s step-aside policy and its ethics committee did nothing to prevent his return to Parliament, after he resigned as a minister under a cloud of corruption charges just before the elections, this is vintage ANC doing nothing about corrupt cadres," said Trollip.
