JOHANNESBURG - An above-inflation wage agreement has been reached between the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) and the Bombela Operating Company (BOC).
The parties have agreed on a 6.8% wage increase for workers at Gautrain, bringing an end to a 17-day strike.
Gautrain employees affiliated with NUMSA downed tools earlier in July.
NUMSA had accused BOC of negotiating in bad faith, leading to a deadlock in talks.
Union spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, said that the agreement means that workers are expected back at work on Friday.
"The night work transport subsidy will increase from R105 to R112; night shift allowance will be from R35 to R37. The housing subsidy has increased from R1,210 to R1,300," said Hlubi-Majola.
