JOHANNESBURG - Outstanding reports have delayed pre-sentencing proceedings in the case against 21-year-old self-confessed sex worker serial killer, Sifiso Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi, who was found guilty of the rape and murders of six women believed to have been sex workers between April and October of 2022, appeared briefly at Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
He was found guilty in May and the court ordered that Mkhwanazi be sent for psychiatric assessments at the Sterkfontein Hospital to determine if he posed any threat to society.
A sharply dressed and relaxed Mkhwanazi appeared before the Johannesburg High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
High Court Judge Cassim Moosa was informed of an outstanding report by the probation officer and one of the victim impact statements.
Moosa then postponed the matter after the mental evaluation report from Mkhwanazi’s stay at the Sterkfontein Hospital was handed to the court.
"Your matter is then postponed back to the high court of South Africa, Gauteng division, Johannesburg, sitting here at the magistrates court, Palm Ridge DC 13 to Wednesday, the 7th of August."
Mkhwanazi remains behind bars.
