JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Joburg said it was unaffected by ActionSA's decision to join forces with the African National Congress (ANC) in the administration of the metro.

This follows Herman Mashaba's announcement that his party would work with the ANC on an issue-by-issue basis in Joburg and Ekurhuleni.

The DA and ActionSA have rubbed shoulders in Joburg since the 2021 local government elections, clinching a combined 115 seats in the municipal council.

DA regional leader, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, said that the party would continue to play an oversight role on its own.

"When we were voted out of government, ActionSA was the first to let everyone know that there is no coalition in the City of Joburg in the opposition. There is no coalition in the City of Joburg with ActionSA and the DA, so each political party has the prerogative to work with whoever they want to work with."
