Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber to enforce evictions of foreigners: 'It's time to take action'
The Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber, has vowed to enforce evictions of foreign nationals and revive the rule of law.

After a visit to the Cape Town Refugee Reception Office in Epping, Schreiber has emphasised the importance of enforcing evictions at various sites.
This includes Wingfield and Paint City in Bellville, where many refugees reside.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and Schreiber announced on X that the national and local governments would work together to enforce lawful evictions and 'restore the rule of law'.
According to Schreiber, many of the refugees who settled here during the Covid-19 pandemic have been given alternative options such as repatriating or resettling, but they have rejected those.
“That has been the process dragging on over the past few years and why we feel it is necessary to take action.”

In addition to evictions, he says they will be looking to accelerate asylum applications.
“No one can claim that they have not been offered a reasonable alternative.”
