CAPE TOWN - The Golden Arrow Bus Service is to introduce 120 electric buses by the end of next year.
The company said that the historic purchase followed its commitment to renewable energy, established in 2017, with the installation of two solar plants at its facilities.
Deliveries of the electric buses are scheduled to start later this year, with all the buses expected to be operational before December 2025.
Golden Arrow's Bronwen Dyke-Beyer: "The buses ordered are BYD B12 buses, which have similar specifications to the bulk of Golden Arrow's existing fleet. The order confirms our commitment to renewable energy and also provide us with the largest scale of operational data to pave the way towards full fleet electrification. We are now intensively preparing our workforce to operate the system with complex requirements."
The news comes a day after the president signed into law the Climate Change Act that sets out a national climate change response, including mitigation and adaptation actions.
