JOHANNESBURG - Alleged killer nurse Sithembile Xulu has fired the attorney representing her in a murder case involving her 21-year-old domestic worker, over a fraudulent R6 million insurance payout.
According to the prosecution, Sithembile Xulu and her co-accused Simon Mogale, allegedly killed Busiswa Nxumalo by slitting her throat and discarding her lifeless body at a dumping site in Lenasia South.
The duo appeared before the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of murder and three counts of insurance fraud.
Last week, Xulu and Mogale made an appearance for a bail application but that was postponed due to her lawyer falling ill.
On Tuesday, the court learned that the legal representation of the pair, Tyrone Mashaba, decided not to continue with their case.
However, a new attorney Ntobeko Nhlangothi will act as the defence moving forward.
Magistrate Syfred Mati acknowledged this sudden change in the case.
"Fine, because the counsel needs to consult thoroughly with both of you before continuation of the bail application."
Despite being remanded in custody and denied knowing her co-accused, Xulu continues to foot the bill for both their legal representation.
