It may now be a race between Harris and Donald Trump in what’s expected to be among the most hotly contested US elections.

At the last count, Biden’s election account was more than $91 million.

Even before Biden dropped out of the race, there was already speculation about how this campaign money could exchange hands if he didn’t seek re-election.

Although campaign finance rules limit how the cash can be spent, international relations expert John Stremlau said Harris will likely inherit the funds for her campaign.

“I saw overnight that small donations to her totalled $49 million. I’m not worried about the money. I expect the donors who were pressuring Biden to step aside will open their cheque books to her.”

During his last declaration, Trump revealed he had more than $100 million in his campaign account.
