JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are investigating a murder that rocked Edenvale, east of Johannesburg, after a 54-year-old man was shot and killed at a sports bar on Saturday night.

Two closely placed sources have confirmed that the victim was former South African professional heavyweight boxer Mark 'Striker' Strydom.

According to reports, he was shot outside Grand Slam Diner after he allegedly pulled a gun on a woman.

The exact details of the incident remain unknown, but it is believed the former heavyweight boxer was working as a bouncer in one of the sports bars in the area.

Gauteng police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza said one person has since been arrested.

"I can confirm that police in Edenvale are investigating a murder docket after a 54-year-old man was shot and killed at a sports bar yesterday [Saturday]. A suspect has been arrested and will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court tomorrow [Monday]."
