CAPE TOWN - African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says the Government of National Unity (GNU) is not cast in stone.

Mbalula says even if the GNU collapses, it will not affect South Africa's stability.

He said the parties that joined the unity pledged to abide by the commitment to serve the country despite their party ideologies.

Mbalula spoke at the ANC's provincial headquarters on Saturday, following President Cyril Ramaphosa's Opening of Parliament Address on Thursday.

"Do you think that the DA [Democratic Alliance] opposition to Bela Bill, as well as NHI [National Health Insurance] is going to stop because they are in the Government of National Unity? Even if they were not that was not going to stop, but the fact of the matter is that we used the six million votes that we have got to proceed to implement these policies."
