CAPE TOWN - African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says government policies are designed to benefit the poor and address inequality.

Mbalula addressed the media in Cape Town on Saturday, following President Cyril Ramaphosa's Opening of Parliament Address (OPA) on Thursday.
Mbalula said the ANC-led government has implemented programmes to address unemployment in the past 10 years.
He said these programmes include the Presidential Employment Stimulus and the Expanded Public Works Programme.
Mbalula said another focus for the new administration is tackling the issue of youth unemployment.
"The president made an unequivocal commitment to investing in our people by meeting the basic needs of all - investing in education, improving health outcomes and improving service delivery.
"This also includes ensuring that the skills capabilities, resources and energies of all South Africans are used to the greatest effect."
The ANC's secretary general added that the party agreed with its GNU partners to implement the National Development Plan.
