JOHANNESBURG - Calls are continuing from various sectors for authorities to speed up the investigation into the shooting of Advocate Coreth Naude.

Naude has been acting on behalf of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in the tax inquiry involving controversial businesswoman, Shauwn Mkhize.

On Friday, SARS confirmed that Naude is recovering in a KwaZulu-Natal hospital following what the service is calling an assassination attempt.

In addition to a call by the justice minister, civil rights group Freedom Under Law and the Pretoria Society of Advocates for Transformation, SARS also wants the police to speed up their investigations.

Naude's shooting has raised concern following attacks on other whistleblowers and investigators in the country in the past.

These include the assassination of Bosasa liquidators, Thomas and Cloete Murray and the murder of Western Cape anti-gang unit detective Charl Kinnear.
