JOHANNESBURG - South African Revenue Service (SARS) lawyer, Advocate Coreth Naude, is recovering in a KwaZulu-Natal hospital following what the service is calling an assassination attempt on her life.
It is understood that while pulling into a hotel parking lot in the affluent suburb of Umhlanga on Wednesday night, two unknown men opened fire on her car.
Naude has been acting on behalf of SARS in the tax inquiry involving controversial businesswoman, Shawn Mkhize.
Shortly after the ordeal, Naude was rushed to hospital for treatment, prompting KZN police to open a case of attempted murder.
With investigations into the attack ongoing, the senior advocate is making a steady recovery in hospital.
"Advocate Naude is stable and she really is coming up right," said SARS spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko.
Sibeko said that SARS condemned the act and described it as shocking, with the intention of intimidating officers of the court.
