JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Health Department said it was still contending with the effects of a local cyber attack on the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS).

Towards the end of June, ransomware targeting the NHLS was introduced to its systems, subsequently causing delays in its ability to render services.

According to the provincial health department, patient data was not compromised but NHLS facilities were still experiencing delays that were beyond the normal and agreed turnaround times.

Spokesperson Motaletale Modiba called on the public to remain patient as the NHLS worked to resolve its systems.

"Despite the challenges we are facing now, with the slow turnaround time, the system is holding and we continue to do our best in terms of providing the much-needed services to our patients."
