CAPE TOWN - The Hanover Park community policing forum said that the culprits who pelted law enforcement officers with stones on Friday were members of a gang in the area.

Law enforcement officers were attacked after responding to a shooting near Lonedown Road in Hanover Park on Friday morning.

The gunman fled the scene after the officers were pelted with stones and the circumstances related to a woman being shot and injured during the incident was still being investigated.

CPF secretary, Yaseen Yohaar, said it was important to note that the suspects involved in the incident were not community members, as stated by the City of Cape Town.

"We cannot say it's residents of the community. The majority of the community in Hanover Park is genuinely law-abiding citizens, who care so deeply about this community that we live in."

Yohaar said that it was important to articulate information about such incidents properly.

"The vague misrepresentation can mean anything and anyone can take it out of context because of the generalisation."

The city has condemned the incident and urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
