CAPE TOWN - The South African Weather Service has warned that very cold conditions are set to persist in Cape Town, with disruptive rainfall expected overnight into Saturday morning.
Disaster Risk Management spokesperson, Charlotte Powell, said that the forecast could result in more flooding following a series of severe cold fronts that hit the city last week.
"The soil and waterways in many parts of the city are completely saturated after the many heavy downpours that have been experienced on and off since Sunday, 7 July."
Powell said that response teams were active in areas affected by the storms and assessments are ongoing.
"Our numerous city departments continue to work on restoring faults where these are being experienced. Humanitarian relief efforts, facilitated by the city’s NGO partners, are also continuing, with the provision of hot meals, blankets and personal hygiene packs, amongst others."
