ANC chief whip Ntuli says Parliamentary caucus ready to support GNU

CAPE TOWN - African National Congress (ANC) chief whip Mdumiseni Ntuli says the party’s Parliamentary caucus stands ready to support the Government of National Unity (GNU) to ensure the country's stability.
But others like the MK Party have rejected the idea of a government of national of national unity saying President Cyril Ramaphosa is not capable of delivering.
Parties returned to Cape Town City Hall on Friday to debate Ramaphosa’s Opening of Parliament Address (OPA).
He delivered it on Thursday night, where he called on South Africans to rally behind the GNU.
After a short technical delay, Members of Parliament (MPs) wasted no time in locking horns over Ramaphosa’s OPA.
First up was Ntuli who emphasised the need to support the GNU.
“As the ANC Parliament caucus, we stand ready to support the seventh administration to ensure stability and prosperity of our country and continent.”
He said their political differences should not make them enemies.
Meanwhile, the MK Party’s John Hlophe said the GNU was merely a means to hold on to power by the ANC.
“If ANC formed GNU on the basis it was the largest party, you ask yourself why was that principle not extended to the province of KZN.”
Agriculture Minister and DA leader John Steenhuisen said the GNU is the country’s chance to free itself from populism and economic decline.
The debate continued on Friday.
