CAPE TOWN - The Progressive Caucus is supporting the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)’s call to bring back President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala matter to Parliament.
The caucus, which is a pact of opposition parties including the MK Party and EFF, wants the president impeached for his failure to disclose the 2020 theft of foreign currency at his Bela Bela property.
In June, the EFF revealed it sent a letter to National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza, requesting the revival of Ramaphosa impeachment proceedings.

Speaking at the Progressive Caucus’ media briefing in Parliament on Thursday, Malema had this to say:
“Phala Phala has been submitted to her through a formal letter and she [Didiza] will have to follow the Parliament processes to respond to us. The seventh Parliament can deal with any matter, there’s no way some should say the matter was dealt with by the sixth Parliament, therefore, the seventh Parliament can’t deal with it.”
Malema slammed the Democratic Alliance (DA) for changing its position on the president’s Phala Phala saga.
"It is so opportunistic for DA to say it will not vote for Phala Phala impeachment because of VBS. When we were voting in favour of Phala Phala impeachment report, the VBS story was there."
