CAPE TOWN - With preparations underway for the opening of Parliament, the Progressive Caucus has solidified its commitment to playing the opposition role in Parliament. 

This is a pact of left-leaning political organisations that rejected the Government of National Unity, comprising the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), African Transformation Movement (ATM) and smaller parties.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Good Hope Chambers in Parliament, MK Party parliament leader John Hlophe said that the Progressive Caucus would gladly play the oversight role. 
  
"Although the Progressive Caucus is formed on the context of the seventh Parliament, it will not be limited to Parliament as a forum to achieve its objective. We shall work together to broaden our collaboration with all progressive formations," Hlophe said.
