CAPE TOWN - With the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party poised to introduce its state capture-accused members into the National Assembly, Parliament said it was the duty of the Electoral Commission to vet new members.
The MK Party has confirmed to Eyewitness News that it has called up former Eskom CEO, Brian Molefe, former PRASA CEO Lucky Montana and former Transnet boss, Siyabonga Gama, to represent them in Parliament.
While the three men feature prominently in the state capture report, they have not been convicted of anything.
Secretary to Parliament Xolile George said that the rules of Parliament only applied once a member had been sworn in.
"So, if there is any transgression that has happened inside, in any matter, whether it is deviant behaviour or an allegation has been made against a member, that member belongs to a political party, that political party knows how to deal with a member. But when it comes to a transgression that happens in the House, Parliament has got its own infrastructure to deal with that transgression, either referral of the member to the power and privileges committee, if it’s a member of ethics, it is deferred to the ethics committee but it has got its own adequate infrastructure to respond to transgressions that happens within the domain of the House."
