COGTA's Hlabisa to propose national govt allocate disaster grants to municipalities
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Finance said it does not have any funds to deal with recent natural disasters, which include the recent felt fires in the province that lefts hundreds of homes destroyed and 14 people dead.

DURBAN - The Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) says it will make a proposal for national government to allocate disaster grants for municipalities to deal with natural disasters.
This comes after veld fires ripped through KwaZulu-Natal, leaving hundreds of homes destroyed and 14 people dead.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Finance said it does not have any funds to deal with recent natural disasters.
COGTA Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa said he would approach National Treasury in this regard.
“It can either be we advanced an argument that let there be a grant that is sent to all municipalities, a grant with a condition that it will only work on a disaster item.”
