Remains of 11 children who died in Carletonville crash matched to families - GDE

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education says the remains of 11 children who died in a crash in Carletonville have been matched to their respective families.
MEC Matome Chiloane made the remarks at a memorial service held in honour of the deceased at the Grace Bible Church on Tuesday.
Last week, the families of the deceased had to submit DNA samples to identify the learners.
Speaking on the sidelines of the joint memorial service on Tuesday, Chiloane said only a few steps remained before the remains of the learners could be given to their loved ones.

"They managed to identify they know which child is which child but now they can't proceed because they are still continuing."
The update from Chiloane follows calls from some of the families on government to fast track the process so they can bury their children.
"The first thing we think about is God give me strength to bury this body, all of us we know in this instance it’s tough for us we don’t know,” said the uncle of four of the victims, Aviva Manga, who died in the tragedy.
Meanwhile, a joint funeral for the learners is expected to be held soon.
