Newly appointed Defence Minister Motshekga dismisses naysayers
Defence Minister Angie Motshekga said she does not need to be a soldier to be an effective minister in the new department she's heading.

JOHANNESBURG - Newly appointed Defence Minister Angie Motshekga has dismissed naysayers who've criticised her appointment amid questions about her military experience.
Motshekga previously served as the Minister of Basic Education.

She said she does not need to be a soldier to be an effective minister in her new department.
"I understand that my responsibility is not to be a soldier, but in the department, there's civic responsibility to run the department and also make sure that the instructions of Cabinet especially in the department are implemented to the full, so I don't need to be a soldier to say this is the budget that should go into human resources..."
