JOHANNESBURG - National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza said that Thursday's opening of Parliament was significant as the country celebrates 30 years of democracy.

Didiza addressed the media in Cape Town on the state of readiness for the session. 

President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver his opening of Parliament speech to map out government's key priorities for the next five years.

Didiza has confirmed that the address will take place at the Cape Town City Hall.

"This venue has been selected in terms of our cost-containment measures and also for its capacity to accommodate all members of Parliament from both Houses. As of the 14th of July, Cape Town City Hall has been officially designated as the parliamentary precinct."
